Interestingly enough..
Was browsing through the Klue blog, where they have quite a few blog posts featuring some modelling shows. Interestingly enough, quite a few of the models who were modelling were not of asian heritage. This reminded me of something.
When I flew back last, just about over a week ago, I had to go through the usual routine of having my bags checked by the Ministry of Agriculture officers as I was bringing in food.
My family usually uses magazine of mailers as cushioning or to line the boxes. So, there was this mailer from Isetan which was on top of all my things in the box containing food. THe officer opens it and starts browsing through the mailer. Yes, this is the same officer who was chatting happily to me while I was anxiously waiting to go. ANyway, the thing that he asks me was "You came from Malaysia right??".. So, of course I answer yes.. Then he points out something to me. Confused, I checked out what he was pointing at. It was a caucasian female modelling some clothes from Isetan. OH.. right...
I suppose I can understand why he was a li'l puzzled. I did just come from an Asian country. The only answer I could really offer was.. "er.. i guess they just like using white models.. er.. I suppose she could be mixed?" Mmm.. the word for a cross between caucasian and asian has somewhat slipped my mind. Oh well.
That brings me to the question. Why is it that Asians, look up so much to the caucasian race. I'm not trying to be racist here. Seriously though, why do we think that the caucasian features are more good looking. Okay, admittedly, I do sometimes think so as well. However, thinking about it.. A LOT of the adverts in Malaysia feature.. well, non-asian models but caucasian models.. But.. why?
Is it ingrained in Malaysians that well, yeah.. caucasians wear this, it's so cool, got to get it? It's just.. stupid if you think about it?
However, humans, being humans.. no matter how much we try to deny certain facts, we still end up acting quite the opposite. Since the govt is so big on patriotism, why not start by using local instead of foreign models instead? Surely there are sufficient pretty girls in Malaysia for that?
OH well, it is undeniable that there are MANY reasons why things work the way they do. However, it's just thought provoking why we use caucasian models instead of local ones?

And can someone PLEASE englighten me on what you call a person has Asian and Caucasian mixed parentage!?? ugh.. hate it when I just forget things >.<"
